Araki considers the 1973 manga Ai_to_Makoto as the most important one to him. Araki supposes that this manga and his father's art books to be the main reasons why he decided to become a mangaka. Araki was also inspired by the work of French artist Paul Gaugain. Araki began drawing manga as a teenager after a friend of his praised one of his early works. Araki kept this passion a secret from his parents and began submitting his manga to a magazine. However, his early work was repeatedly rejected. After one manga he spent all night trying to finish was rejected, he decided to go to the publishers' office in person to find out why his work kept getting rejected. He meet a Shueisha editor there who told him what was wrong with his work, but at the same time, told him that he had potential and to clean up his work for the upcoming Tezuka Awards. The manga was the one shot Western manga Poker_Under_Arms, which became a Selected Work at said awards. Araki made his serialized manga debut with Cool_Shock_B.T. in 1983. He is most famous for writing and drawing Jojo's Bizarre Adventure or Jojo_no_Kimyou_na_Bouken and Baoh_Raihousha. The latter was also represented in the Jojo fighting game All Star Battle. He is a big fan of Western music and many characters and Stands are named after or are references to Western musicians. He also has a strong interest in Italy and quite a few Jojo arcs either use the country as a setting or make references to it. He is also famous for apparently being immortal as he has not visibly aged in years. He is fond of giving characters elaborate and flashy outfits and likes to show villains abusing dogs in some way. His action scenes also tend to be quite violent often ending with gruesome deaths or at least is participants being beaten to a bloody pulp. He is also famous for killing off many of his characters, sometimes quite abruptly. His art style has significantly changed over the decades he has drawn manga. In his earlier work, the male characters were often extremely muscular, but over time, they have become leaner and at times more androgynous looking. He is famous for his tendency to draw characters striking distinctive poses. His distinctive artwork for Jojo is often parodied and referenced in both fan art and other anime. He is also known for being very inconsistent when it comes to his characters' hair colors. The color of his characters' hair varies widely amongst his color artwork. Araki had the honor of being one of the five artists commissioned by the Musee du Louvre to create a works set in the museum. In response, he created a Jojo spinoff starring his semi-author avatar Kishibe Rohan, Rohan at the Louvre.
