Surreal survival horror video game franchise created by Konami. The original game debuted in 1999 for Playstation 1.

The series is known for its grimy visuals and bizarre and creepy and symbolic monsters; Pyramid Head being the most infamous of the bunch. Its style is heavily inspired by the movie Jacob's Ladder and the works of David Lynch. The games often have multiple endings. Composer Yamanoka Akira is often credited for providing a good chunk of the game's atmosphere with his ambient and industrial soundtracks.
