The original manga debuted in 1998 and was adapted into a 2 episode anime OVA in 2005 whose first episode covered the original one shot and whose second episode featured new material. It tells the story of an unhappy and lonely Japanese boy named Santa who hates Christmas, largely because his name was constantly made fun of and because he was born on December 24. On top of that he is distant from his parents and has never had the opportunity to celebrate a happy birthday or holiday. On Christmas, he meets a strange and cheerful girl named Mai who takes an interest in him, wanting to change the gloomy boy's view of Christmas, and tells him that she is a student at Santa Claus Academy. Santa is skeptical, but over the course of Christmas Eve, the two of them develop an intimate relationship.
