He is an extremely flamboyant gay man who is usually wearing a Village People inspired costume consisting of sunglasses, black leather clothing, hot pants, and a hat. After Sumitani was discovered to be dating female model Suzuki Anna, he has made fewer appearances as Hard Gay. Hard Gay often goes around helping and talking to various people in Japan while behaving very flamboyantly. He often publicly performs pelvic thrusts and yells "Hooooooh!" or "Fooooh!" Whenever he is unhappy he often interrupts people by putting his palm to the person's face and rapidly saying, "Sei sei sei sei~" He is a well-known aspect 2000s Japanese pop culture and has even made cameos in series like the anime adaptation of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu and the manga Gantz as well as appearances in various live action shows.
