Now Viewing: gacktTag type: Character Extremely popular Japanese male actor/singer born on July 4, 1973. He is also known as Kamui Gakuto. Gackt was exposed to music at a young age. His father was a trumpet player/music teacher and his mother was also a teacher. Gackt began playing piano at the age of 3. Although he is known as a rock musician, he was exposed to rock music at a much later time than most youths of his generation. In his childhood, he was only familiar with classical and enka music and he would not be introduced to rock music until he was a young adult. He cites Frederic Chopin as being inspirational to him because he felt Chopin taught him the beauty of music through his compositions. As a rock musician, he cites Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" as being the rock song that inspired him to become a rock musician. He started his career in the band Cains:Feel but rose to stardom once he joined the visual-kei band Malice Mizer in 1995. He left the band and became a solo artist, which he is to this day, in 1999. Besides his live action and music work, he has also been involved with video games and anime. He played the character Genesis in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core whose design was also modeled after his likeness. It is often speculated and joked that quite a few of the male characters of the later Final Fantasy games are in some way inspired by him. He also played the lead character in the hack and slash game Bujingai, which he also had a large amount of creative input in as he helped develop said game's story and did all the motion capture work for his character. He also played Oda Nobunaga in the live action Sengoku Basara: Moonlight. He has also had small voice acting roles in various anime with his role as Kirishiki Seishirou from Shiki being his largest anime voice acting role. In collaboration with Nestle, he also started a video game let's play series called Gackt Game Center in 2014 where for each day of a year, he will play through a different game. He is so popular that he is often hired to help promote video games, even if he has no other involvement in the game's production, like the Japanese commercial for Metal Gear Solid 2. He is an enormous fan of the original Mobile Suit Gundam and has made references to the anime in concerts and variety shows. He was also present when a life size Gundam model was unveiled in Japan. He also played Yuuki Jouji in the Kamen Rider Decade film. He has provided his voice samples for Gackpoid and has even dressed as Kamui Gakupo in one of his music videos.
