Now Viewing: onizuka_eikichiTag type: Character A blonde and muscular young man and the protagonist of Shonan Junai Gumi, Bad Company, Great Teacher Onizuka, Great Teacher Onizuka Shonan 14 Days, and GTO: Paradise Lost. He is a wild and aggressive young man who has been a rough delinquent since middle school which is where he also met his best friend and fellow delinquent Danma Ryuuji. Together the two of them form a biker gang. Although Onizuka can be coarse in his behavior, he has a strong sense of compassion and often helps out those in need. These personality traits enable him to win over many former enemies. Onizuka is extremely physically sturdy and regularly shrugs off devastating injuries and keeps his cool even when he is near death. He is as spiritually tough as he is physically; once Onizuka sets his mind to accomplish something, he never gives up no matter how impossible it seems. He is also quite horny and sexually frustrated and he tries to find ways to pick up girls and lose his virginity, but they are mostly unsuccessful. While his friend Ryuuji mellows out as he becomes an adult, Onizuka remains as wild as ever by the time of Great Teacher Onizuka though he is less violent than he used to be. He initially wants to become a teacher in order to pick up girls, but he soon grows to like teaching in order to help out his students. As a teacher, Onizuka is very unorthodox and over the top in his methods. This, and his lack of book smarts, make him unpopular amongst the other teachers at Holy Forest Academy. However, the chairwoman has complete faith in Onizuka and comes to his defense in difficult situations. Furthermore, Onizuka's unorthodox strategies turn out to be effective in dealing with the notoriously hostile class he had been assigned to. Onizuka may lack book smarts but he is very good at teaching his students important life lessons that other teachers may not be able to do as well. Many of the students who initially set out to ruin Onizuka gradually come over to his side and enjoy being with him. Onizuka also develops a close relationship with Fuyutsuki Azusa, one of the few teachers who believes in Onizuka and is his main love interest in the series. He is interested in motorcycles, video games, and anime and often makes pop cultural references to the latter two. His name is taken from the musician Yazawa Eikichi. Onizuka's design was based off of Japanese delinquents. One key theme creator Fujisawa Tooru wanted to convey through Onizuka was that people should take responsibility for their own actions. He is voiced by Futamata_Issei (Shonan Junai Gumi OVA), Takagi_Wataru (GTO anime). In live action he is played by Miyashita Naoki (Shonan Junai Gumi), Sorimachi Takashi (1998 GTO TV series), and Akira (2012 TV series).
