Unlike its predecessor, which received a Korean TV drama adaptation that is very different from the source, this series has also been adapted into a Japanese live action TV series on October 11, 2015. The series is set up like a sequel to City Hunter with the returning City Hunter characters now being older, but Houjou has stated that Angel Heart is not a direct sequel to City Hunter and is in its own separate continuity. Furthermore, the returning City Hunter characters have different backstories that contradict their original counterparts. Glass Heart is a legendary Taiwanese assassin who has been raised ever since she was a little girl to be a deadly killer. The cruel training she endured succeeds in transforming Glass Heart into an efficient killer by the time she is a teenager. However, it failed to remove her conscience. Every time Glass Heart kills someone, she feels as if her heart is shattering like glass. Eventually, the guilt she feels over the many deaths she's caused becomes too much for her and she jumps off a building, killing herself. One year after her suicide attempt, Glass Heart is still alive thanks to a heart transplant but is stuck in a coma and is kept in a laboratory. Glass Heart is conscious of her condition but refuses to wake up as she is still tormented by guilt. Yet, she feels as if there is someone speaking to her and reaching out to her during her unconscious state. She soon realizes that the person speaking to her is the owner of the heart that is now beating in her body and she is able to experience the memories of the heart's owner. During her coma, she has visions of a kind-hearted man and feels a desire to meet him and subsequently rekindles her desire to live. Glass Heart awakens, escapes from the laboratory, and heads to Shinjuku, Japan to find this man. Meanwhile, in Shinjuku, Saeba_Ryou has fallen on hard times. He has effectively given up his City Hunter sweeper business and although he tries to cover it up by skirt-chasing, his friends Nogami_Saeko and Umibozu know that Ryou is still grieving over his partner and lover Makimura_Kaori's untimely demise. However, Ryou, Saeko, and Umibozu get a sort of unexpected reunion with Kaori once Glass Heart arrives in Shinjuku looking for Ryou. As Glass Heart carries Kaori's heart and her memories with her, Glass Heart has inherited some of Kaori's personality traits. At the same time, she becomes involved in a gang war soon after she arrives. Ryou teams up with Glass Heart to resolve the conflict and during the process, Glass Heart begins to experience happiness and companionship for the first time in a long while. After the gang war is concluded, Glass Heart is taken in as Ryou's daughter and moves into Ryou's old apartment and lives in Kaori's room. She is given the name Li_Xiang-ying and together they revive the City Hunter sweeper business. The series then follows Xiang-ying assisting Ryou in his sweeper work as she gradually adapts to normal life. Not to be confused with the anime-original character Angel Heart from the City Hunter anime. This series has no relation to said character.
