It would only benefit the smart ones

Well, yeah. It is easy to decode the system if you put some brain into it.

The thing is, even if you find the secret to up your level, so you can spam more efficiently. It still take a couple days to gain the system, it is slow, and if you are detected, your efforts get cancelled easily with a ban. The mission is to mess with spammers, even if it messes with the user experience. This is not a social network, people come here mostly to check some hentai, user interactions are not super important. And the more comments the higher load on the staff, and the staff is like 4 dudes in a good day.

It has troubled me before, I still need to get people to create character tags for me because I don't comment alot despite having posted a lot of art to the site. But it's a solution, and people are usually nice about doing that for me, so it's not the end of the world lol.

I guess I agree that for someone like me, who doesn't browse as much as I post, having posting-related things held behind commenting, is pretty troubling.

See, that's what astounds me the most: User submissions of art & similar media content is the LIFEBLOOD of this site, yet in terms of status mechanisms (required to even COMMUNICATE with other users directly, no less) it's 100% unrewarded regardless of the quality (as measured by upvotes)? Ludicrous. It's like you're begging for as few people to make the contributions to your site that actually attract users as possible, while incentivizing as many people to post spam which, in sheer hosting terms, literally costs you money. If I were to *DELIBERATELY* try to make the design decisions which would most strongly guarantee the failure and eventual death of a website, I couldn't do better than this.

That's just the thing. The incentive structure is set up to reward minimal-effort user interactions, not uploading of good porn.

Not if you want to have *any* value beyond it.
Jesus. If the only ambition here is to be a low rent danbooru clone count me out

This is what needs to be fixed. I can 100% guarantee that a TON of the users of this site would LOVE to volunteer HOURS of their lives towards making improvements to the site if they were given the opportunity to do so, even just out of their own self-interests. Any site-owner who'd refuse the the unfathomable amount of free labor at their fingertips for a libidinal project like this would be an idiot to ignore it

Anyone who picks up to read this thread from the end-up, make sure to at least read this one since it encapsulates my argument here.

This place if I remember correctly started as that. We mirror everything from there, and we follow mostly the same tagging rules.

I guess is up to Lozer to respond to that.

I'm well aware that it did. I'm just shocked someone would put forth the effort to branch off a site like that without any ambition to go beyond nursing off its teet.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty sure the admins know the system is both retarded and ineffective, but I'd wager:

1) They don't have the immediate knowledge to know how to change it. The length of the trac is a testament to this, and Lozer has stated before that they lack the funds to make even very basic changes to the website.

2) They are too lazy to put in the minimal effort to learn said knowledge and maintain the website themselves. The only time action is ever taken is when it's *legally required* to be taken, at which point the laziest, stupidest band-aid possible will be hacked on so they don't have to deal with legal requests anymore. They really want to spend as little time as humanly possible and just let the website and its users deal with themselves.

3) They are committed to keeping the current system out of spite, as comments from two admins have repeatedly shown that they have a kind of hate boner for anyone with a perfectly valid criticism for how hilariously bad the system is.

Accurate. It's Danbooru but you don't have to pay to see loli. That's pretty much it.
