Now Viewing: dogezaTag type: General 土下座 Dogeza (土下座 "sitting right on the ground") is an element of Japanese manners. It is a form of showing deep apology and request forgiveness. It involves kneeling on the ground and bowing until touching the floor with one's head while the hands are held on the ground. This is often done in order to show deference to a highly revered high-class person, as a deep apology, and to express the desire for a favor from said person. It is known in English as kowtow borrowed from Chinese koutou / kau tau (trad. Chinese: 叩頭 or 磕頭; simplified Chinese: 叩头 or 磕头).
