We don't really see much of a "Rivalry" between them in Gaiden...maybe they're Rivals in Boruto the Movie precisely because Naruto's so nice to Sarada, and seems to use clones to spend more time with his son than his actual self.

He's nice to all the children of his village.Sarada just get more attention cause of her situation while Boruto has a family he knows are his and loves him.
